Alumni boat gets Lincoln course record

The Leicester City senior men's 8+ matched the course record at Lincoln Head over the weekend, rowing 5½km upstream in 20:56 and beating second placed Nottingham Trent University by 1min 3seconds.

The boat contained ex-men’s captain Rob Fox, ex-president Joe Brunton, circuits coach Dave Smith, current treasurer Zak Iliffe, ex-coach Graham Wright, Adam Koszulinkski and Ben Townsend (rowing with Tom Clark, Oxford University and cox John Sephton, Oxford University).
The crew had the best row they’ve had so far this season and it puts them in a great position for the Head of the River race next Saturday.

Such Alumni will also be featuring in the Old Blades regatta on Saturday 27th April, a great event in which any old competitor of the club can come and race in De Montfort boats – please find details here: http://www.dmurc.moonfruit.com/#/dmurc-regatta/4570407495

Varsity 2013

Unfortunately ULBC got the upper hand this year, but with lots of potential in our fresher squads DMURC look set to build on their experiences through regatta season.
Here are the race reports:

Fresher Boys 4+
The boys had a great start, pushing ULBC off the line but after a few strokes Leicester hit a swan and then rowed into the wall so the Umpires called a re-row. The race re-started at the first red bridge and Leicester pulled away for a win.

Fresher Girls 8+
A very tidy looking fresher girls eight took to the water after the fresher boys 4+, they had a good clean start and pulled away from Leicester through the race. They came away with an extremely comfortable 2 ½ length victory.

Senior Men's 4+
Our senior men stepped up to the start line and put the very strong ULBC 4+ through their paces. Both boats were neck and neck at the first red bridge but after that the Leicester boat pulled away to take the win. Our boys absolutely hooned their arses off in that one.

Senior Women's 8+
After Leicester breaking a seat on the start (they always seem to have an excuse to re-row) both boats were re-set. A little way in the DMU boat caught a crab and an oar hit someone in the head, this gave ULBC the advantage and they took the win.

Fresher Girls 4+
Our girls were up against some pretty beefy ULBC fresher girls. DMU had a good start but ULBC slowly pulled away through the race and rowed on for a win.

Fresher Boys 8+
A similar story ensued through the fresher boys race. They fought hard but Leicester just got to the line first.

Senior Women's 4+
Another tidy looking DMU boat just pipped to the post by ULBC. They seem to make a habit of rowing like monkeys but still winning.

Senior Men’s 8+
Before the race there was talk about how ULBC were training with Notts&Union so they were going to smash our boys etc etc, so everyone was gearing up for a ULBC dominated race… however, a very clean DMURC men’s 8+ stepped up for this race and pushed the pretty scrappy looking ULBC 8+ right to the line, only losing by half a length, Leicester having to ask some questions between themselves after that one.

Mixed 8+
The closest race of the day though was definitely the mixed senior 8+. Both boats over took each other 2 or 3 times during the race, fighting for the win, but ULBC came away with a victory of only half a canvas.

Overall a lot of lessons learnt and some closely fought races. I personally don’t think the result on Wednesday was a true reflection on the club this year, everyone is training hard and I’m sure there’ll be lots of silverware won through regatta season.

Old Blades Launch

So here it is, made public...

The launch of the DMURC Old Blades aims to bring old boys and girls of the club back together to rekindle memories and events of the past.
It's full of old school information (just have a gander in the history section) but we're going to be continually gathering information from the club as far back as we can so there's a record for every generation to see.

Two main events will happen every year for old blades to get involved in, this is:
The DMURC ball - http://www.facebook.com/events/318375518280930/
and
The DMURC Old Blades Regatta - http://www.facebook.com/events/139816249512094/

It will be great to see you ll again.
